Prince William Stadium --July 18, 2007

DC Wood All-Stars came into Prince William Stadium tonight convinced they had a better team, brought with them several top notch pitchers and were going home with a win over the Blue & Gray All-Stars, but again for another year Blue & Gray proved who are the "BIG DOGS" in Northern Virginia Baseball sending DC Wood packing 7-3.

B&G took advantage of a first inning error as Matt Orner of the 1st Horizon Blues reached and the burning up of the base paths started immediately as Orner stole second moved to third on a wild pitch and scored on Ermi's Baseball Club, Frankie Ramirez' ground out to take the lead 1-0 after one.

The B& G second saw Skagit Longhorn Marcello Trejo lead off with a singles move to second when Potomac Hawks Galvin Dent reached on a catchers interference, Lorton Phillies Chris Mothershed then put down a perfect bunt and beat it out to load the bases for Ermi's Steve Smith who grounded out to short but more importantly brought home the run for a 2-0 B&G lead.

DC Wood cut the lead in half taking advantage of a B&G error as DC Woods Saul drove home their first run of the game.

The fourth inning is when B&G started  to run at will, Mothershed earned a walk and Longhorn pinch-runner Jamien Payne came on and immediately stole second and third, swiping 4 bases in all on the night, then scored easily on another Steve Smith ground out for a 3-1 B&G lead after four.

Frankie Ramirez  led off the 5th with a single, he stole second, moved to third on a bad pick off attempt and came home off of Prince William Yankee's Logan Springer's blast who just missed home run by inches as DC Wood left fielder Fisher with a stellar catch by leaping to the top of the wall to bring it back, but B&G lead after five 4-1.

DC Wood scratched a run in the 7th after a wild pitch allowed Bell to score from 3rd and the lead trimmed to 4-2.

B&G stormed back in the 7th as Ramirez led off with another single, stole 2nd again  and scored on Logan Springers single, NV Dodgers Chris Gray then singled to left, pinch Runner GT Hitt of the Fredericksburg Seminoles pinch-ran for Gray and B&G pulled off a double steal as GT took second and Springer stole home!! ---DC Wood battery had no answer for the speed on the B&G squad; as on the night B&G stole 10 bases in all !!!! GT later scored on Seminoles Greg Kirsch's ground out putting B&G out front 7-2 after seven innings.

DC Wood picked up an unearned run in the 8th capitalizing on a throwing error, but on the play B&G right fielder Matt Orner of the  backed up the play and gunned down the 2nd DC Wood runner trying to score on the error at the plate and ended the threat.

Other defensive highlights were a 4-6-3 double play turned by Chris Mothershed and Steve Smith,, GT Hitt picked a runner off of first with a nice tag by NV Red Sox Pete Schourek, and PW Yankee catcher Barry Gauch gunned down a DC Wood runner, Fisher, trying to steal second.

Pete Sullivan of Ermi's Started the game earned the win with allowing only 1 base runner and struck out two,  even though DC Wood touted some top pitching talent it was B&G pitching that dominated this game, GT Hitt was the 2nd B&G pitcher and he went 3 innings, 1 unearned run, striking out 2, Brandon Weaver of the Virginia Diamondbacks and Bobby Collier of the Blues did let in a run each but only surrendered one hit a piece to the DC Wood supposed dangerous lineup, and PW Yankee Closer, Logan Springer got the final three outs of the game with no damage done, and a final score of Blue & Gray 7 DC Wood 3.

B&G now moves to 2-0 in the All-Star series having won last years contest in a shellacking 12-3 score.

See you next year  !!!
