Seminoles Press Release:
In a record setting game of 5+ hours, the
Seminoles held back a very motivated D'Backs squad to
win in the bottom of the 15th. The Seminoles struck
quick platting the first 5 batters before recording an
out, and up 6-0 in the 4th only to see things go bad
from there. A 2 out error allowed 2 runs in the 4th to
give the D'Backs a breath of life. An RBI single by Nate
Keranen for the Seminoles moved the game to the 6th at
7-2. Then the wheels came off. With 2 outs in the 8th
and nobody on a costly error by the Seminoles opened the
gate for the D'Backs to score 2 in the 8th, then push
across 3 in the 9th to tie things up a 7-7.
Lost in the game was a pitching gem by
Seminoles starter GT Hitt. Hitt went 8 innings with 0
ER, 10 K's, 2BB, 2 HBP and scattering 5 hits.
Unwillingly GT turned the game in the 9th to see things
slip away. Innings 10-13 were labored thru by both teams
before county reg's prevented another inning from
starting.
Resuming the next day with 2 mangled
lineups the squads squared off again. With tension high
in the 15th a lead off BB to J.Glaspy moved the go ahead
run on. A SAC latter he was at second with 1 out. Next a
costly error by the Seminoles moved the Runner to third
with 1 out, but Seminoles pitcher Brian Parker settled
down ad proceeded to strike out the next two batters to
end the surge. The bottom half would bring a merciful end
to the marathon. Seminole Steven Doherty lead off with a
single, then stole second to move into scoring position.
With 1 out, an out of place manager Chris Hawkins hit a
weak ground ball to the infield that was thrown away and
the run scored for the win. Steven Doherty for the
Seminoles was 4-6 with 2 doubles, 3 RS (game winner), 4
SB, & 1 BB
Enough can't be said about two teams who
really respect each other. For all the BS going around
in this league, especially at this time of year. It was
very refreshing to play a game and receive as much
respect and courtesy as was possible from a fellow team
in the league. Thank you Virginia Diamondbacks.
Game Numbers- Time
about 5 hours 15 mins, 15 innings, 18 hits, 10 errors, 6
pitchers used, 29 runners left on base, 30 players
batted for a total of 129 at bats, 2
sets of umpires
Diamondbacks Press Release:
The Fredericksburg
Seminoles outlasted the Virginia Diamondbacks in the
longest game in the Blue/ Gray League's 2 year history ,
8-7 in 15 innings that had to be played on 2 different
fields on 2 different days.
Friday night the D'Backs
were down 7-4 going into the top of the 9th inning when
Manager Skip Sisk came up big with a 2 RBI ground ball
to the right side that was booted by the Seminole 1st
baseman to even the score at 7-7.
Defensively P Steve
Gonzalez was a workhorse for the D'Backs , pitching 13
innings and giving up the 7 runs in the first 3 innings
, shutting the Seminoles down for the last 10 innings of
play that was finally suspended because of the county's
lights out law. 1st baseman Jeremy Glaspy was stellar
at 1st base robbing several Seminoles of base hits to
help Gonzalez to a no decision at Freedom HS.
The suspended game
continued in the 14th inning Saturday at Stonewall HS
with P Brandon Weaver taking the loss for the D'Backs.
