The Potomac Hawks came away with a 3-1 win over the NV
Red Sox in an excellent pitching duel between Dan Walker of
the Red Sox and Chance Mistric of the Hawks. With two outs
and the tying run standing on second base, Steve Hall
stepped up to the plate and hit a clutch single up the
middle to plate the tying run. In the eighth inning Steven
Gonzalez ripped a ball down the first base line and was off
to the races for a stand up triple, Donavan Clements
followed with a hard fought walk. With runners at the
corners and two outs Donovan broke for second base, quickly
the Red Sox pitcher threw behind Donovan to the first
baseman who then threw to second hoping to get the third and
final out of the inning but Donovan beat the throw and was
called safe, wisely Steven sprinted from third base to score
the go ahead run. Keith Vera then followed with a sharp
single to score the final insurance run. Derek Marsh came in
the ninth inning and shut the door on the Red Sox to earn
the save. |
