Dodgers Report:
The NV Dodgers held off the determined
Lorton Phillies 13-10 Saturday at Stonewall.
Joe Bruno pitched effectively for the
Dodgers, but tired quickly. Pete Jones
earned the win with 3 inning of shaky
relief; Bryant Burns earned a 6-out save.
The Dodgers' Nick Lichtenfels, in his first
game since the birth of his first child,
delivered on a promise to his wife with a
first inning home run. Lichtenfels added a
base-clearing double later in a 5-RBI day.
Bobby Buttgereit and John Blaeuer went 6-8
in the top two spots in the Dodger order,
combining to steal 8 bases and score 6 runs.
Scott Fitzgerald made several sterling plays
at third base.
Phillies report:
It was a hard fought game today between the Phillies and
the Dodgers with the Dodgers edging out the win 13-10 in 7
innings. The Phillies took the lead in the top of the 1st
but the Dodgers took the lead right away from them in the
bottom of the 1st with a monsterous 2-run HR over the left
field fence. The Phillies took back the lead in the top of
the 3rd inning (5-4) but the Dodgers came back with 4 runs
in the bottom of the 3rd inning. The Dodgers never gave up
the lead again. The Phillies fought throughout the whole
game pulling within 1 run in the 5th inning.
The Phillies were able to hold the Dodgers scoreless in
the bottom of the 5th but were blanked themselves in the top
of the 6th while the Dodgers put up 3 more runs in the
bottom of the 6th. The Phillies would score a run in the top
of the 7th before leaving 2 men on base. That was all the
Dodgers needed to finish out the game and get the win.
