The Prince
William Yankees have swept the Potomac Brewers 2 Games to none
to take the Blue & Gray Championship of 2006. The Yankees
captured the 2006 Championship by sending out there ACE to the hill
Dave Beckner who went 7 strong innings allowing 4 runs on 5 hits and
6 strikeouts. John Bybee, Stoney Frye and Rick Fisher each went
2/3rds of an inning to shut down the Brewers the rest of the way as
the Yankees defeated the Potomac Brewers 9-4 to capture the First
ever Blue & Gray Championship, this is also the Yankees 3rd
Championship in 4 Seasons. The Yankees got things started in the
2nd as DH George Adam got things started with a lead-off single
followed by Cunni Moeller Singles, Rick Fisher then stroked a double
to put the Yanks up 1-0, Moeller doubled in the 4th, stole 3rd and
scored on Fisher RBI Sac-fly to right to make it 2-0 Yankees. The
Brewers struck back in the 4th as Vasquez was hit by pitch, Ramirez
singled sending Vasquez to 3rd, Ted Nevin then singled to score
Vazquez and Ramirez went to third. The Brewers attempted a double
steal but parker was erased at second by Yankee catcher Dan Baker
but Ramirez scampered home on the play to tie the game at 2. The
Yankees struck right back in the top of the 5th as Mark Sterling
walked stole second and went to third on the bad throw, SS Tim Nargi
then Singled Sterling home for a 3-2 Yankee lead. The Brewers
Pitcher Backe finally tired and on came Jeff Ermi for the
Brewers in the 6th, the Yankee 6th was
productive as Adam led off with a single, pinch runner Brett Spencer
then stole second, Moeller singled moving Brett to third, then 1B Yonnie Ezring singled home Spencer, Moeller moved to third on a
stolen base and scored on Steve D'Aquila single as the Yankees took
a 5-2 lead. But the Brewers always know for their hitting all
season struck back as Vasquez drew a walk then Ramirez sent a
Beckner offering over the right field wall for a two run home-run as
the Brewers cut it to 5-4. The Yankees immediately got to Ermie
again in the 8th scoring 2
runs on three hits by Jon Bybee, Rick Fisher and Yonnie Ezring to
give the Yanks a 7-4 lead. The Brewers threatened with two on in the
8th but Jon Bybee got Jamie Owen to pop out to end the inning.
The Yankee took advantage of a Brewer error and singles by Tim Nargi
and Stoney Frye to score 2 more runs and take a commanding 9-4 lead.
The Brewers tried to mount one last comeback loading the basses with
only 1 out, Rick Fisher came on for the Yanks and struck out SS
Arrington and got the dangerous Ramirez to fly out to left to end
the game and secure the Championship for the Yankees. .
