Jon Bybee pitched and hit the Prince William
Yankees to an 11-5 win over the Manassas Mets Saturday in a
faceoff between teams that had been tied for first place in
the semipro Blue & Grey Baseball League's Northern Division.
Bybee was the winning pitcher and had three hits, including
three RBI. Tim Nargi also had three hits for Prince
William, which is now 10-2.
Game Recap:
The Mets Struck first in the 1st with 1 run but the damage could have
been worse as they stranded 3,. The Mets took advantage of 2 walks and a hit and
pushed there lead to 3-0in the third inning. then the game started to see-saw
back and forth as the Yankee bats finally awoke in their half of the 3rd with
2run hits by Nargi and Bybee to make it 4-3 Yanks. The Mets struck right back in
the 4th tying the game at 4 apiece, and with the Met clean-up man Ryan James at
the plate with men on 2nd and 3rd, John Bybee came on in relief and struck James
out to end the threat. The See-saw continued as the Yanks struck for 2
runs in their half of the 4th with a couple hits, 2 sacrifices and a 2 out
hit. The Mets would not go away as they got within 1 to make it 6-5 Yankees.
The Mets then made a pitching change and the Yankees took advantage of several
walks then pounded out 5 more hits over the next couple innings and pulled away
for the 11-5 win for the battle for first place in the Prince William Division.
The Yankees take on the First Horizon Blues next (game time TBA)
The Mets handle the Red Sox next Sunday at 10 am at Vets.
