The Mets took the early lead in the game thanks to a couple defensive mistakes by the Nats. The Nats, likewise, took advantage of a costly error by the Mets and got some timely hitting from Platt and Maxey to plate their only runs of the ballgame in the 3rd.

Todd Musher came on in relief for the Mets and was lights-out for 4 2/3 innings, striking out 8 along the way. Daniels kept the Mets bats at bay until the sixth when an error and two singles were enough to push across the tying run. In the top of the seventh a lead-off walk eventually became the go-ahead run on a hard line drive by Ryan James to center field.
