Prince William,
VA---Apr 9, 10005
Opening day of the new Blue & Gray Baseball League saw
Yankee SS Tim Nargi's walk-off 9th inning game winning RBI single
give the Prince William Yankees a 3-2 win over the First Horizon
Blues at Heritage Field .
This game was a
classic pitchers duel featuring Dave Beckner, (12K's, CG), of the
Yankees against Jim Wilkie, (10k's), of the Blues; both Pitchers
dominated and after 8 complete the Yankees held a 1-0 lead.
Beckner opened the 9th still dominating, but a walk, an error and a
single by the Blues Palmer tied the game at 1, Eddie Boyd then hit
into a RBI fielders-choice to give the Blues a 2-1 lead going
to the bottom of the ninth. The Yankees however did not quit, Jon
Bybee led off the ninth with a double and the Yanks were in
business, DH Steve D'Aquila reached on an error and 1B Yonnie
Ezring, who was actually sacrificing, put down a perfect bunt and
the Yanks loaded the bases with none out. Dave Shadbar pinch hit,
but was one of Wilkie's strikeout victims, Wilkie then faced
LF Matt Brown and promptly hit him with the first pitch and forced
in the tying run. Wilkie settled down and struck-out 2B Robbie
Kloehn, then with two out and a 1-1 count Nargi drove a line drive
to left-center and the Yankee comeback was complete. In all the
Yankees put up 10 hits; Nargi had 3 and Bybee and Kloehn each had a
pair.
The Blues are on the Road to face the Fredericksburg
Seminoles at Woodbridge MS at 1:15 PM.
The Yanks return to action next week going on the
road to visit Meadows Farms in Fredericksburg at 4 pm at
Walker-Grant Field Saturday April 15th.
